In 2009, retired teacher Jack Wilkinson donated $2.5 million to the College of Central Florida to establish a permanent campus in Levy County. Wilkinson, a lifelong Levy County resident and teacher died in 2009 at 96.

Jack taught mathematics in the Levy County school system for 45 years. He was also a farmer, rancher and timber grower. He said that he lived a simple life and it was a pleasure to be able to give this gift for education.

Levy Superintendent of Schools and former CF Trustee Bob Hastings said, "I cannot think of any one person who has touched more lives in Levy County than Jack Wilkinson."

At the time of his gift announcement, Jack reflected on fond childhood memories - from attending a one-room schoolhouse to driving a Model T to high school. Encouraged by his mother during the Great Depression to earn his teaching certificate, he said that his gifts to the college and the naming of the Levy Campus make his life "feel like a fairy tale."

Is a beneficiary designation gift right for you?

If you own a qualified retirement plan, such as an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b) and would like to make a charitable gift, your family or your estate might benefit if you update your beneficiary designation form naming our organization as a beneficiary. Beneficiary designation gifts may help your heirs avoid paying income tax on certain inherited assets and may help your estate avoid estate taxes.
